The Dragon Champion
And
The Dragon of Bones
</u>

Elessar, the Champion of the kingdom Nogard goes out hunting one day and while overlooking his home country, he sees his home town being destroyed by a huge blood red dragon.  He races to defend his town, but by the time he arrives, it's too late, the entire city has been destroyed, and
no one from his city has survived save him.

Furious, Elessar goes to find this dragon and seek his revenge. As he does so, a mysterious voice leads him to a secret shrine high atop a mountain where he finds four other dragons. These dragons are holy supreme beings that represent each of the four elements and promise to help
him in his quest.

“There was only to be four dragons, one for each of
The four elements, namely earth, wind, water and fire.
But an evil wizard, crazed with the power of dragons
Did what was not to be done, and through means that
Are so hideous that even the Serpent himself would
Be envious, and became a dragon himself. This did
Not go unnoticed by us, the natural five, and an attempt
Was made to destroy what was not meant to be,
But alas! The wizard was quite thorough in his research
For he knew that dragons can only be destroyed by
The destruction of the earth itself. But there is another
Way of which that the wizard did not know, for it was
A secret truth that only we knew, and which he
now knows.”

Elessar, who had been sitting as if stone, now stood
And addressed Dreigana, the dragon of earth.
“This former wizard and now dragon of whom
You speak, is he the one who attacked my city? And
If so, then why was it that only I could see him?”
“Yes” replied Dreigana, “It was him, King Dragoon,
The dragon of Bones, who attacked your home, for
He now knows what we know and fears that his end
Is at hand.  For it has been decreed that the man that
Can see dragons is he that can slay dragons, and that
It is us naturals that decide who may see us and who
May not. King Dragoon has now discovered this and
Is now hunting to kill the one who we have granted
The ability to see us, fearing that one will kill him
And that is why he attacked your city. He does not
Know who it is, only that someone from the land
In which you live, and so he will destroy every city
And town until he believes that he has destroyed the
One who could destroy him.”

At these words, Elessar flew into a rage and proclaimed
“Let him stop searching for me, for I will go to him! He
Will not harm any others as long as I, Elessar the champion
Of the kingdom of Nogard, live! I will defeat and kill
Dragoon and will throw his wretched corpse into the
Mightiest and most violent of all volcanoes and see
To it that he never sees another full moon!”

These words pleased the dragons, and declared Elessar the
Champion of the Dragons, and promised to aid him in the
Battle against Dragoon.  Hydrogan, the dragon of water
Gave him armor made of mud and leaves, the dragon of
Wind, Drawoon, gave him shoes made of feathers,
Dreigana gave him a shield of wood, and Drapyron, the
Dragon of fire gave him a sword made of hot coals.
“Though simple in appearance” Dreigana said, “These
Tools that we have given you are very powerful and
Are the only things you will need to defeat Dragoon.
The suit of mud and leaves will protect you from Dragoon’s
Claws, teeth and scales, the shield of wood will protect you
From his flaming breath, the shoes made of feathers will
Allow your feet to fly as fast as the wind blows, and lastly the
Sword made of coals is the only thing that can harm Dragoon.
Use these tools well, and if you have need of us, you need
Only to call for us.”

Elessar thanked the elemental dragons for the gifts and left
For the place where he might find Dragoon and finish him.
After traveling for several days, he finally reached the Valley
Of Stone Bones. Though it appeared as if there was none there
Elessar decide to wait, and concealed himself so that the
Advantage of surprise would be on his side. Thus Elessar waited
As the shadows began to grow, but then a large grey moth
Silently flew into the Valley of Stone Bones and with a lion’s
Roar, the moth called out, “Where are you King Dragoon, the
Dragon of bones?”

Climbing out of the air, came King Dragoon, and with a voice
Of cracking bones he spoke. “Who be it that summons me?
What have you learned, lord of the moths, of this threat of
Mine, this young fool that can see and therefore slay Dragons.
Speak quickly for my wrath is rising like the tides of the ocean deep.”
“The one of whom you speak my lord,” said Lord Moth, “Is
Indeed from the Kingdom of Nogard of which you have been,
For the one that they have chosen is none other than the
Champion of Nogard, the one known as Elessar the Great
and Mighty.”
Upon hearing the moth’s words, Dragoon screamed and torched
The skies with his flames. “Who else! Who else but him would
They choose! There is no other mortal of whom I might fear but
Him! Yet though he is mighty, he could never defeat me,
For what mortal can stand against my breath of flames? And
Who can survive my claws and teeth, for they are as sharp
As the coldest wind on the coldest of winter nights. Still, I
Will ensure that this would be opponent never gets the chance
Nor thought of victory. I will destroy all that live in the land
Where he lives and shall to see to it that none survive another
Sunset or sunrise and will destroy this slayer of dragons.”

Upon seeing that Dragoon was finished and ready to depart,
Elessar called out to him. “You will not leave this valley
Alive Dragoon! You will fight me before the sun sets today
And tomorrow your body shall boil like meat in a poor woman’s
Cooking pot. Stay and fight me if you be not a coward!”
Angered at Elessar’s words Dragoon roared loudly, “What
Fool dares to call me a coward? Show yourself and know death!”
So Elessar stepped out of the shadows and said “It is I, Elessar,
The Champion of Nogard who speaks! Come King Dragoon,
dragon of bones, come and I shall show your fate. You will
Not harm another human being, and I will make you pay for
What you have done! Come now and meet your destiny!”
When Dragoon saw Elessar, dressed in mud, leaves and
Feathers, armed with nothing but wood and coals, he was
Infuriated. “Who are you that thinks I am so easy an
Opponent that you come with the simplest of armor
And the weakest of swords? You fool! I shall dine on
Your bones tonight!”

The two mighty powers flew at one another, each trying
To strike the other down before his opponent could. Dragoon
Soon realized that his breath of flames were useless against the
Wooden shield and that his claws and teeth were being
Blocked by the armor of mud and leaves, which enraged the
Dragon of bones even more than he had been. His strength grew
And after a long struggle, he pinned Elessar to the ground.
“Now Elessar, fool who thinks I am so simple an opponent,
You shall know death at my hand!” However Dragoon’s rage
Had blinded him to wisdom, for he had not pinned down
Both of Elessar’s arms, and that was all Elessar required. He
Seized the sword made of coals and thrust it deep into Dragoon’s
Heart, and with a heaven shattering scream, Dragoon fell to the
Ground dead as a could be. With a mighty shout, Elessar jumped
Up and cut off Dragoon’s head, then ran as swift as the deer
To the shrine of the elemental dragon and presented them with
The head of Dragoon, the dragon of bones.

FINE
Well, actually the title is The Dragon Champion and The Dragon of Bones but of course that's too long. Anywho, this is an extra credit epic I did for my advanced English class. See, I wanted to bring up my grade two points so that I would meet the requirements to not take the final, which is I need to get an 85 or higher in order to not take the final at the end of the year. So my teacher said I could write an epic, and I did.

At first I wasn't sure what to write about, but then I remembered the picture of King Dragoon and Lord Moth that I did over the summer, and decided to write a story with King Dragoon. I printed out a copy of that picture, as I had no clue where the original was and I only had one night to do it, and inked over the lines with my pen.
Speaking of that picture...I really need to color it and digitally ink it....I only have a temperary and aweful color job as you can see. ^^;

And on a final note, this is the first story I've actually written. I sort of did one in 5th grade...but it was required and for school...and I don't really count it. So yeah, enjoy! ^.^
